Hi All,
You are now a part of a very unique organization - the "Corey's Mission" group on my laptop. This group will be receiving emails forwarded by me (his Dad) from Elder Corey Blanchet while he is gone serving the California Sacramento Mission for his church - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I will be sharing updates and info during the next two years (now that's a commitment on everyone's part) - possibly adventures - as they come in from the exceptional young man now known as "Elder Blanchet."
As a group you share little in common - at least on the surface. You differ widely in age, religion, and level of acquaintance with Corey. Some of you know him well as friends, classmates, and relatives - others only know of me and share the excitement and dedication only a parent can understand. Some of you are RMs (returned missionaries) and others don't even know what a mission is. No matter - Elder Blanchet (Corey) is out there in California and he is our common bond.
I will keep you updated as to his addresses and assignments. Most of the words you read will be his as I'll be trying to forward his messages verbatim.
Now for a quick summary of what to expect. Corey/Elder Blanchet has unlimited access to "snail mail" (so write him when you can) and extremely limited access to email - once per week at most for only a few minutes. So most of the time his family will be the recipient (time constraints), so don't be insulted or offended if you don't hear from him directly. Twice per year he is able to call home - Christmas and Mother's Day (Dads get snubbed again - sigh...or as he says, Oh Snap!), so his phone is now officially "OFF." As you can guess, he will be very focused on his mission - these rules help him. Remember - Corey volunteered to serve, so he knows what is expected and complies eagerly.
Missionaries really appreciate mail! For the next two-plus weeks (until December 2nd), Corey will be at the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Provo, Utah preparing to go to the mission field in Sacramento, California. He has no access to email until after he gets to California, so the only news he'll get from anyone will be via the USPS.
Here's his address at the MTC, again until 12/02/2008:
ELDER COREY CHARLES BLANCHET
MTC Mailbox #207
CA-SAC 1202
2005 N. 900 E.
Provo, Utah 84604-1793
When I get the info on his assignment address, you will, too. The address will usually change every six weeks or so, but that is not etched in stone. Naturally, if you want out of this group, let me know.
To keep private data private, I will always BCC these emails - in fact, many of you are just an email address that Corey asked me to keep informed. Should you stick around, I think you'll find his messages interesting and uplifting.
That's it. Very little from me in the future (please hold the applause) - only from Corey. I'm sure I embarrassed him in some way, but that's kinda my job.
Thanks for reading.
Best regards, Art (Blanchet)
P.S. - Did I mention missionaries really like mail? Write when you can. Thanks again.
